Have you ever wondered how to tag another Facebook user using only their first name?
Have you ever published a comment or posted a photo status update only to realize you misspelled a word or used incorrect punctuation?
This video shows you how to edit a Facebook comment and a status update, reposition a photo used in a status update and tag someone with only their first name.
These Facebook editing improvements allow fan page admins and users alike to correct and fine-tune the updates and comments they post. Hopefully, the ability to edit text-only status updates will be available soon, too.

I’ve been editing my personal posts without a problem but I have 2 fan pages and neither one shows an “Edit” option. When I click on the pencil, I only get…
* Pin to top
* Change date
* Hide from page
* Delete
Are you using a personal Facebook page or am I missing something?
The ability to edit a status is separate from the options you mentioned above. Another way to edit a status it to click on the photo used in the status (which enlarges the photo and update on your screen). At that point, the edit link will be available underneath the text of the update, on the right side. The only scenario I’ve run into when I can’t edit a status update is when it’s a Share from a different page. Hope that helps!
I’ve always wanted to know how to edit a status post, but when I click the date of a status I only receive the options:
Like, Comment, Share.
Is there a way to get the Edit option?
You can also access the “edit” option by clicking directly on the photo used in an update. When you click, the photo will be enlarged on your screen, and the edit link will be available underneath the text of the update, on the right side. Thanks for the good video, but the text that I entered to accompany a link that I shared does not seem to be editable. When I click on the time stamp, I see:
Like · Comment· Unfollow Post · Share
No option to edit. When I click on the little pencil, it gived me the option only to delete, but not to edit. I already have numerous comments so I don’t want to delete and re-post just because of a couple of spelling and syntax errors, but I hate looking stupid!

Er…not all status updates are accompanied by photos. Most of the time it’s just text and/or link and there’s no way to edit it, unless you’ve found a fix for this scenario too?

I like knowing how to tag using just first names. It’s much more friendly. Thanks!

Unfortunately, Facebook has yet to allow for that. They also don’t allow you to edit text included in “shares” that you post.
