August is upon us and with that, lots of people are focused on back to school. Personally, I’m just counting down the days until pumpkin spice lattes are back. Here are some interesting items to help lead you into the weekend.
1. Social media background checks For those just starting college (and really, all of us) this Gizmodo article on social media background checks is a good reminder that the Internet is forever. Do not say racist, sexist or threatening things. If you do say them, even in jest, do not say them online. Even if you are prodded into a fight, please do not respond via social media. You can and often will be judged by how you act online – and potential employers may not be able to read your tone as sarcastic or ironic when all they’re reading is a single tweet or a background check.
2. Use QR codes carefully QR codes continue to be all the rage, even though many are used poorly. However, some are finding themselves getting sued for using a Google short URL in their QR code. Check this out to be sure you’re using these correctly and far from legal issues.
3. Under Pressure This week, one of my favorite social media bloggers wrote about relieving pressure. It’s important that when you do your job – any job – that you are taking pressure away from your client or employer rather than adding it on. Can you say with confidence you are?
Hope everyone has a great weekend and enjoys the last few weeks of summer.
