How to Schedule Instagram Posts & IGTV Videos from Facebook Creator Studio

Facebook owning Instagram brings with it both pros and cons. Pros would include things like being able to run Instagram ads using Facebook’s Ads Manager, accessing Instagram activity – including direct messages – within your Facebook Business Page Inbox, and connecting your Instagram Business Profile to your Facebook Creator account. The newest “pro” to Facebook and Instagram’s marriage is that you can publish and schedule posts to Instagram and IGTV using Facebook Creator Studio.

Here’s how to get setup so you can schedule Instagram posts and IGTV videos from your Facebook Creator Studio.

When you visit your Creator Studio, you’ll be prompted to make the connection between your Facebook Business Page and Instagram Business Profile (if you haven’t already done so), and give Instagram and IGTV scheduling and publishing a try.

Then choose Instagram Feed or IGTV depending on what you are planning to publish.

Schedule an IGTV Video using Creator Studio

If you have more than 1 Instagram Business account connected to the Facebook Business Pages you admin, you’ll need to select the brand presence you want to use.

Next, upload your video file (or choose it from your Page), give your IGTV video a title, description, and set the thumbnail.

IGTV video details

Note: IGTV does accept landscape videos, but is still preferential to portrait videos. Because of this, I was not able to choose the video I wanted to use from my Facebook Business Page and had to instead upload the same video file from my computer. Also, I had to upload my own custom thumbnail because all the thumbnails Creator Studio was offering were thumbnails taken from the left side of my video only.

You can access IGTV upload requirements here.

If you have published your video on Facebook or YouTube already, you can easily reuse the same video title and description to add here.

You can also choose to post the first 15 seconds of your IGTV to your Instagram feed, or to publish the full video to your Facebook Business Page from this screen. Publishing the video to your Instagram feed is recommended since the feed post will prompt viewers to continue watching the video on IGTV after the first minute (when viewing from the feed).

You can choose to publish your IGTV right away, save as draft, or schedule to publish at a set day and time in the future.

Schedule an Instagram Post using Creator Studio

The initial steps to schedule an Instagram post from Creator Studio are the same as scheduling an IGTV video, and instead of clicking on IGTV, you choose Instagram.

Your Instagram caption can be up to 2,200 character, include 30 mentions, and 30 hashtags. You can also add a location to your Instagram post from this Creator Studio scheduling screen.

Click to upload photos or videos you want to schedule to Instagram. You can upload photos and videos from your computer or your Facebook Page.

Upload photos and videos to Creator Studio

Once you have your Instagram post exactly how you want it, you can choose to publish it immediately, schedule it for future publishing, or save it as a draft just like with the IGTV publishing.

All your published, scheduled, and draft posts for Facebook, Instagram, and IGTV can be viewed and edited from your Creator Studio.
