Business Blogging: Outranking the Competition

As I’ve said before, blogging is incredibly important for your business. Maybe you know already what blogging can do for your search rankings or that it can position you as an expert. Perhaps you realize blogging can get you noticed by customers and industry publications.

Maybe you know all this because one of your competitors has an amazing blog that you follow. You’re not really sure how you could compete with them. They’ve already covered all the important topics.

Fear not, young Padawan.

outrank competition by blogging for your business

There are a number of issues here that may be deterring you. So let’s walk through them.

Duplicative Topics

If you’re worried that you shouldn’t blog because a competitor has already covered a topic, you can relax. You have your own unique perspective and can always add something to the conversation. That’s why you started your own business rather than going to work for someone else! Let your customers and potential readers see exactly how you would approach a problem and read what you think about any number of topics.

SEO

It’s true that the longer a piece of content is around, the more time it has to be indexed by Google. That said, there’s no guarantee that your competition is taking the time to SEO their content. And if so, there’s no proof they’re doing it well. So taking the time to write new content and SEO it well is always worthwhile.

Competition

Interestingly, sometimes people don’t want to seem as though they are blogging just because their competition is. They don’t want to seem like they’re jumping on the bandwagon or keeping up with the Joneses. There’s an element of pride here – no one wants to be seen as a copycat. But here’s the thing: if your competition is blogging regularly, they have a leg up on you. They’re being seen as an expert and building rapport with new customers. They’re increasing their ranking in search. The fact is they are your competition. Why let them get that competitive edge?
